This summer, I went to U.S with my mom and had a wonderful time for half a month. During that time, I spent the whole five days cruising through 7 states in western America, in the form of group traveling. We stepped on Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska. That was an amazing experience I have never had before. Among a great number of places of interest, I extremely appreciate Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.
Mt Rushmore is located in Black Hills area which belonged to the Indian aboriginal people before America was established. However, the new immigrants took it away from them with violence. As time went by, in the 19th century, an American sculpturer discovered that this place had some unique stones which were suitable for sculpture. Therefore, he had a creative idea, that is, making a giant sculpture on the marble of an intense mountain called Rushmore. After 10 years’hard work, the sculpturer sadly died so the project was shut down. The local government didn’t complete it because they wanted to keep its look to show respect for the passed soul.
Although this sculpture hasn’t been finished till now, it does leave 4 huge head shapes upon the mountain. They are the faces of famous U.S presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln. There’s no doubt that it is regarded as one of the world’s most famous sculptures. The faces are all in natural color of marble and every single feature is engraved exactly in a lively and vivid way. I was deeply shocked at this artificial work. I stood in front of it for a long time and was entirely held in its power. This was my first time that I had ever seen such an attractive sculpture. At that moment, words failed to express my feelings. Once you really face that, the beauty, spectacular and the size, all tell how great it is. But you have to feel it in person.
This was my unforgettable journey. I definitely consider it as one of the most worthy visiting places all over the world. Whenever you make a visit to Mt Rushmore, it won’t let you down. It shows the history and the spirit of America. I love it from the bottom of my heart and I guarantee you also will.
